Day 5- The Next Food Network Stars!!

Isaac informed Joe and I that today was his birthday. Color me surprised! I could have sworn I remembered having an 8 lb baby boy in February... oh well. It's a good thing I was prepared. Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies anyone?

I decided that this was going to be our school project for the day. What's the skill you ask? Sequencing! Recipes are a great way to teach sequencing. Also, time-order words. (first, next, then, last) So, follow our easy steps and you too can have yummy cookies!

1. Wash hands. No germs here!

2. Preheat the oven. Isaac helped me.

3. Gather ingredients.

4. Start dumping things in! The video is just of Isaac dumping in the mix. He felt very important!

Abby with the egg. Andy did the butter, but I had to help him hold the bowl, so no picture.

5. Mix it up!!

After we mixed, we performed the 'scoop' and 'plop'. The kids had fun chanting. "Scoop and plop! Scoop and plop!"

And, after a short 10 min in the oven, we have wonderful oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! Happy birthday Isaac!

*This reminded me a lot of when I would make cakes with my Gommy Bradley. She always had a cake mix ready; usually she had 2 or 3 mixes on hand, just for when her grandkids would visit. She would do the 'adult' stuff, like cracking eggs and dealing with the oven, but I was in charge of the directions on the box. I made sure we were following all the directions and I got to pour, mix, and prepare fabulous cakes. I know Gommy would be proud of my kids and their cooking abilities. :)

But wait! There's more! What were we going to do while waiting for our cookies to bake? Make a pizza of course! Art project!

We had a Walmart pizza the other day and I had the great idea to save the cardboard circle that it came on. I collected some supplies and we went to work!

Going with the cooking theme, we used pieces of construction paper to create our pizzas. We went mosaic! I prepared the pieces. I tried letting the kids tear their own pieces, but it really didn't work. Live and learn.

Isaac finished his crust and is working on his tomato sauce.

Abby spreading her sauce.

Isaac placing his cheese on his pizza.
The kids pointed to where they wanted their cheese and I helped them glue.

Their finished pieces! Yea!

Now, in a perfect world we would have made a real pizza after practicing with our art pizza. However, I forgot to get pepperoni at the store and the kids can't handle pizza without it. We did have left overs from Portofino's from last night, so we did have pizza for lunch!

I'm glad to see the kids approaching their cooking tasks with the seriousness they deserve. You remember cooking with Grandmommy Bradley? They'll remember cooking with Mommy!

Love you!

Looks like the kids are having a great time and Mom is too! Great job Jocelyn. Grammy Delk is very proud of the grand babies and her "daughter" too. I love all of the videos.
